I do understand your urge to
retire, your need to settle down and to rest. And I really adore your bitter
attempts to get rid of your fans, who won’t let you go. The albums you have
recorded in the past decades, had been output so carelessly, without any
ambitions or love, that one might think, you could lose your reputation.
But, Mr. Dylan, what did your
aficionados do? They called that meaningless stuff raw, true, earthen,
brilliant.
And now....
And now, Mr.Bob, your supposed final strike. „Shadows of the night, Bob Dylan sings Sinatra“. The unreachable wit oft he subtitle! Bob Dylan sings! But not enough of sarcasm: Sinatra-songs. There is, as I am informed, no such thing as a Sinatra-song, he has not written them, he has sung them, and, in opposite to you, he could sing. So. one oft he greatest songwriters in music’s history tries to sing songs, a singer had sung. Brilliant. But what happened? At least half of your unteachable fanatics still cling to you, and they say, it works, you really made a good job, unbelievable.

So, old Bobby, take my advice,
for I am still convinced, that you have once, many decades ago, written some
oft he best songs of all times: try next time. „Bob Dylan sings Edith Piaf and
Jaques Brel en francais: `La vie en Jaques``, and in the case, this won’t be
enough, to chase away the last of your troublesome fans: „The endless journey
‚round the world or Einmal um die ganze Welt: Bob Dylan singt Karel Gott auf
deutsch und tschechisch.“
Sincerely
